When Roxanne was biking home in the rain, she saw pieces of a nest scattered all over the ground and among them, two baby birds. She waited with them, hoping the parents would come back for their babies, but eventually knew she had to do something if these little birds were going to survive.
Roxanne took the birds, Ken and Laura, and put them in a cardboard box with lots of bedding to keep them warm. At first, they wouldn’t eat and she was afraid that they wouldn’t survive. However, the next morning they were alive and ready to eat! As a veterinarian, she was able to bring them to work so she could watch and care for them all day.
Laura loved to perch on Roxanne’s shoulder and hang out with her, while Ken was a little more outspoken and independent. As time went on and they grew bigger, Ken and Laura started to try flying. During their time outside, Roxanne gave them ample opportunities to go back into the world on their own. Finally, on Christmas, the two ventured out. Without Roxanne’s care, they probably never would have made it. We’re so touched by her kindness and care towards these two little birds.
