Petition: Ask Department Stores to Stop Selling Fur!

Fur clothing items may look nice or even make people feel powerful and elegant, but there is nothing but cruelty in the production of fur. Minks, rabbits, chinchillas, foxes, and other animals are put through unimaginable suffering for wealthy people to pay thousands of dollars for the fur that belong to those innocent animals. Just recently, the state of California became the first state in the U.S. to ban fur. But there is such a long way to go for animals suffering in the fur industry around the world.

Undercover investigations on different fur farms have found extreme suffering. One Voice and Humane Society International (HSI) found tormented minks on a fur farm in France. They were displaying behavior that shows psychological distress like constantly turning in circles and they were trapped in wire cages surrounded by filth. Both young and old minks were found wounded, mutilated, dead, and mummified.

On fur farms in Finland, HSI also found “tiny fox cubs struggling to walk across wire mesh cage floors, dead mink and foxes, and animals suffering from untreated wounds including a live mink whose head was partially cannibalized by cage mates,” and other horrors.

Yet fur is still produced and sold at the expense of such horrific cruelty. We need to demand a change. We can start by asking iconic department stores to make a change. It would send a large message to the rest of the fashion world if they banned fur. Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s banned fur. Let’s encourage others to follow suit.
