At the beginning of 2021, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust heard about a three-year-old, bow-legged elephant who was wandering all alone. They went to the location to assess the situation and decided to let him stay so that he would hopefully join a herd. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. He was ignored by other elephants, making him vulnerable to predators. Thus, they decided to send out their staff to pick him up. At first, the staff was unable to find the young orphaned elephant and worried that he had come into harm’s way. Fortunately, they were able to find him and brought him back to the center for medical care.
Once he was safe, the sweet elephant, who they named Rama, still had multiple health issues that needed to be dealt with. He had worms, collapsed often, and his vision began to deteriorate. Despite these struggles, Rama kept going. His eyesight is improving and overall, he is doing much better.
In addition to his physical health, Rama is much better emotionally too! All of the other elephants love their new friend and were excited by Rama’s arrival. Rama, too, enjoyed the affection and company. When Rama was found, he had no one, but now, he is part of a family of other orphans. Thanks to the amazing staff at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, he can continue to live a happy life.
You can “adopt” Rama here and help the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust rescue other animals like him by donating here.
