Sally Brown, a nurse turned animal sanctuary owner, finds herself in the midst of a distressing situation. Her sanctuary, nestled near the imposing Dinorwig slate quarry in Llanberis, has become the scene of a series of unsettling incidents involving her beloved rescued animals. With eight animals missing or killed, Sally is left grappling with fear and uncertainty about who might be targeting her sanctuary.
Established as a refuge from traditional farming practices, Sally’s sanctuary provides a haven for around 60 rescued animals, including sheep, goats, horses, cats, and dogs. Each animal finds solace and care within the sanctuary’s 35-acre smallholding, where even two lucky pigs occasionally enjoy the warmth of the farmhouse fire during winter.
However, recent events have cast a dark shadow over Sally’s efforts. Incidents of disappearing and harmed animals have become distressingly frequent. Acts of trespassing, vandalism to fences, and tampered locks have escalated the sense of unease. The first disappearance, back in late 2019, was dismissed as an isolated event. But subsequent incidents, including the loss of cherished animals like Joey, a gentle Welsh Mountain goat, and Junior, who was tragically mauled to death, have left Sally reeling.
Despite her best efforts to protect them, Sally finds herself patrolling the sanctuary each evening, bringing the animals closer to the safety of her home. She remains vigilant, aware that each night could bring another attack. Her decision to involve the police reflects her determination to safeguard her animals and uncover the truth behind these heinous events.
