After their beloved Havanese passed away, couple Dale and Kristen were heartbroken. However, after about a year, they felt ready to adopt another dog. The catch? Kristen is allergic to dog hair. Since Havanese are a low shedding breed that is considered hypoallergenic, they were interested in adopting another. Yet they felt uncomfortable purchasing a dog from a breeder since there are so many pups already looking for loving homes. So they began looking at Havanese rescues around the country. When they found the 3 C’s Rescue Ranch in Missouri, they were excited to discover that they had two Havanese available for adoption.

Clove is a Havanese who was used for breeding. Although the breeder is identified as “ethical”, Clove and the other female Havanese from them were scared and undersocialized. However, it was love at first sight when Dale and Kristen saw her. They made the 1,800 mile drive from North Carolina to Missouri to meet her. Once they met the two Havanese, they were even more sure that Clove was the dog for them. They adopted her and took her back to North Carolina with them.
According to Kristen, after a few setbacks Clove began to thrive in her new home. Although she will likely always be nervous of strangers, she is beginning to trust her new humans. Clove the Havanese also has two new feline siblings she shares her home with.
