UFC middleweight Michel Pereira has taken a break from celebrating his recent victory to aid victims of severe floods in Brazil. Less than two weeks after securing his eighth consecutive win in the Octagon, Pereira has been actively involved in animal rescue efforts in his home country.
Pereira, hailing from Para, Brazil, has been sharing videos on social media depicting his efforts to rescue animals stranded by the floods, which have claimed 149 lives and displaced half a million people. In one Instagram post, he is seen on a Jet Ski in Rio Grande Do Sul, rescuing over 15 animals. “The scenes I’m seeing are heartbreaking,” he wrote, emphasizing his commitment to helping those in need.
Footage shows Pereira carrying dogs from flooded homes, navigating submerged rooftops, and using boats to collect stranded animals. This region has experienced more than 25 inches of rain this month, according to INMET, the National Weather Service.
Currently enjoying a career peak, the 30-year-old fighter’s humanitarian efforts come as he edges closer to breaking into the UFC’s top 15 middleweight rankings. His actions highlight a profound sense of solidarity and compassion amidst Brazil’s natural disaster.
