Mugsy Lost Half Her Face After an Acid Attack, Now Happy in Her New Home

When Mugsy was only a few weeks old, she was the victim of an acid attack. During the attack the young puppy had acid thrown in her face. Due to the attack, she lost her right eye, most of her right ear, and much of the skin on the right side of her face. The acid attack against the pup took place in Tehran, Iran. In precarious condition, Mugsy was luckily found by Persian Paws Rescue. This rescue organization sprang into action to save the little pup. Since they did not have the resources to provide her with the necessary surgery, the rescue posted a plea online asking someone to adopt her. 

Luckily, two roommates saw the plea and decided to help Mugsy. They started a GoFundMe to help pay for Mugsy’s surgery and brought her to live with them in Canada. Thanks to the roommates’ kind actions, and the strangers who helped to fund Mugsy’s surgery, she can eat, breathe, and drink relatively normally. However, Mugsy does need a little extra cleaning and care to stay healthy and clean. Her humans make sure to give her daily medications and brush her teeth so that she can stay healthy and comfortable. Additionally, Mugsy needs more water than other dogs, so they are sure she always has access to fresh, clean water. 

Despite her sad past, Mugsy is described as a friendly dog although it takes her extra time to be comfortable around men due to her attacker. She and her fur sibling Martha even have a TikTok account where viewers can watch the adorable pups get up to all kinds of antics. Despite her rough start in life. Mugsy has found lots of love and Support from her new family, and her fans on TikTok. 

Sadly, Mugsy is not the only Iranian dog to endure such a horrific attack. Another sweet pup named Omni is still searching for her forever home after enduring a similar attack. There are no animal cruelty laws in Iran to protect dogs from experiencing such fates. Indeed, there have been mass slaughters of stray dogs through inhumane and brutal methods, including lethal acid injections which leave the dogs writhing in agony during their drawn-out deaths. However, many Iranians have protested these brutal killings, even in the face of potential personal danger.
