Legally Blind Student Accepted in Veterinary Program at Texas Tech

Texas Tech University

Faith Snapp, a student from Texas, is defying the odds and embracing her passion for animals despite facing the challenges of being legally blind. Recently accepted into the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine, Snapp’s journey reflects resilience and an amazing commitment to her dreams.

Born prematurely at 27 weeks along with her twin brother, both facing the hurdle of legal blindness, Snapp’s childhood was filled with obstacles and navigating a world not designed for the visually impaired. Growing up in Slaton immersed in production agriculture, she cultivated a deep love for animals from a young age, raising goats and participating in horse shows alongside her family.

Throughout her undergraduate years at West Texas A&M University, Snapp realized that her passion for animals could converge with her desire to serve people as a veterinarian. Despite doubts from some about her chosen path, Snapp remained determined. With her guide dog, Prim, by her side, Snapp confronts her visual impairment with grace. Describing her vision as akin to looking through a narrow coffee straw, Snapp remains unshaken in her chosen career. Her journey to vet school, while uncommon for visually impaired individuals, embodies perseverance in the face of adversity.

Visiting the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine, Snapp found a welcoming environment where her aspirations were met with encouragement and Support. As Snapp prepares to embark on her journey into veterinary medicine, she remains grounded in her roots, caring for her horse, Kip, and actively engaging in the Companion Animal Club, where she serves as president, advocating for the importance of guide dogs and raising awareness about disabilities.

Reflecting on her journey, Snapp’s message is one of hope and empowerment. Despite the challenges and doubts she encountered along the way, she encourages others to pursue their dreams no matter their circumstances. For Snapp, every obstacle was an opportunity to reaffirm her commitment to her passion, demonstrating that with perseverance, no dream is too big to achieve.
