5 Adorable Whale Moms and Their Babies!

We’re lucky enough to catch a glimpse of their family life through videos. These clips show us the special bond between whale moms and their babies!

1. Humpback Whale Mom and Baby

This humpback whale and her baby swim together beautifully, as documented by Annie Crawley. The baby humpback whale squeals as they float around their mom while swimming. The mom even blows water out of her hole – a spectacle that is amazing to behold! Throughout their swim together, a small shark joins in on the fun.

2. Blue Whale Calf

Patrick Dykstra has spent a ton of time with blue whales and has never seen anything like these two blue whales. While working on a blue whale research project, Patrick and his team came across this mother and her calf off the South Coast of Sri Lanka. After following the creatures for several hours, they saw something rare – the baby blue whale nursing. This behavior is typically never seen by humans!

3. Playful Humpback Whale

Humpback whales are often seen with their calves swimming nearby. Sometimes, they tuck below their mother for protection or to find a little bit of shade. But, this humpback whale calf takes his swim to a new level as he dances around his mother, playing in the water.

4. Curious Orca Mom and Her Baby

In the Herrera Channel, Michael Nolan and a team of other individuals found a pack of Gerlache Strait Killer Whales. These gorgeous creatures were very curious about the ship. The group included a mom and her brand-new baby. The two adventurous souls came right up to the ship, checking it out as the humans cheered them on!

5. Mom Humpback and Baby Check Out Boat

This aerial footage shows a humpback whale and their mother from a new angle as they glide through the ocean toward a boat. The baby, which is already huge, and their mom slowly swim toward the boat. Their massive size is apparent as the boat looks tiny in comparison.

Watching these videos of whale families reminds us how important it is to take care of our oceans and the creatures that live there. Whales teach us about love and family, and it’s up to us to make sure they stick around. Let’s do our part to protect these incredible animals and the beautiful waters they call home!
