The post by Posted by u/Pale_Ad_899 on the r/IllegalLifeProTips went viral with users offering advice on what she could do to get the cat out of the hands of this abuser. The 24-year-old explained that her 18-year-old “roommate” is actually her dad’s fiancee’s son. She is temporarily staying with her dad due to her home being flooded out by the storms. She goes on to explain that she has had problems with the 18 year old since the first night she got there because she “heard him mistreating his cat.”

“I was on edge from my whole situation already and it was around 1 am and I heard him yelling and being aggressive with his cat, and his cat yowling in pain. So I banged on his door and confronted him through the door, rather angrily (I was shaking!), saying I don’t f*ck with animal abuse and I’d defend his cat if I had to. He just denied anything happening.”

A week in she was having more problems with the boy, who she calls Jack. She explained that he plays video games all throughout the night and screams racial slurs. When she confronted him about this, he called her horrible names and even said that “he’s not afraid to hit a girl.”

“Now I just heard Jack mistreating his cat again. I heard banging, like he was hitting something, and I heard him saying through what sounded like gritted teeth “How many f#cking times do I have to tell you to stop f#cking with my chords??!!!???” hit.”

The user was understandably upset and feels like she has no options. She has contemplated recording him and calling the cops to report him for animal abuse but is in fear for her own three cats and is afraid to get the police involved incase all of the cats are removed from the home. She asked if other users had any advice on what she should do.

“If you can’t or won’t steal the cat away, I think your only choice is to report the animal abuse.” one user wrote.

If you suspect that your roommate is abusing their cat, it is important to take action to protect the animal. Animal abuse is a serious issue and can result in harm or even death to the animal.

Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Document any evidence of abuse: If you witness any abuse or notice any signs of abuse, such as injuries or changes in the cat’s behavior, document it with photos or videos.
  2. Talk to your roommate: It is important to approach your roommate in a non-confrontational way and express your concerns about the cat’s welfare. Ask them if they need help caring for the cat or if there is anything you can do to assist.
  3. Report the abuse: If you are unable to resolve the situation with your roommate, report the abuse to the appropriate authorities. This could include contacting the local animal control or reporting the abuse to a national animal welfare organization like the ASPCA.
  4. Remove the cat from the situation: If you fear for the cat’s safety and well-being, consider removing the cat from the situation and finding them a safe place to stay until the situation is resolved.

Remember, animal abuse is a serious issue and should not be ignored. It is important to take action to protect the welfare of the animal. We need more laws to protect animals and hold abusers accountable. Sign this petition to demand all states make all animal abuse a felony now!
