Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s Betrothed, Is a Vocal Advocate for Adopting, Not Shopping for Pets!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 24 hours, you are already fully versed on the most recent royal engagement, but we’ll give you a brief refresher: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged to be wed in spring of 2018!

Hooray for weddings, but let’s get to really what’s important here … Meghan is a huge dog lover! The American actress, humanitarian, and soon to be Duchess of Sussex, has two very adorable rescue pups and we just can’t get enough of them!

Guy and Bogart are packing their bags and moving in with Meghan and Harry in their Nottingham Cottage on the Kensington Palace grounds, where the couple currently lives. 

One of the cuties has already made the trip over the pond to the U.K and the other is currently being carried for by her friend prior to the journey. 

We not only love that Meghan shares photos of Guy and Bogart for us to enjoy, but she also proudly uses the #AdoptDontShop hashtag on her social media pages! 

“Bath time. They’re over the moon. Can you tell? #adoptdontshop,” Meghan wrote on her Instagram page. Guy and Bogart are just the cutest! 

With Guy and Bogart going from animal shelter to royalty, we are sure the duo will inspire many to adopt, not shop! 

It’s reported that Meghan might not have adopted Guy and Bogart from a shelter if it weren’t for fellow animal lovers, Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi. Meghan happened to be in an animal shelter at the same time as the compassionate couple and Ellen urged her to rescue Bogart. “It’s sort of like if Oprah tells you to do something. I’m sitting there holding him and she’s like ‘Have you thought of a name for him yet?’ And I said, ‘Well, I think I’d name him Bogart,’ and she’s like ‘You’re taking the dog home,’” Meghan told Best Health. And we are so glad you did, Meghan!

As Meghan clearly knows, adopting is the most effective way to break the cruel puppy factory supply chain — and by offering your heart and home to a rescued animal, you’ll not only be enriching your life but also saving theirs.

With 70 million stray animals living in the United States, only about six to eight million cats and dogs enter the nation’s 3,500 shelters every year, according to the Humane Society of the United States. Nearly half of all animals that arrive in U.S. shelters are euthanized due to lack of space and adopters, amounting to roughly 2.7 million dead animals every year or five out of every ten dogs and seven out of every ten cats.
