Can you imagine what it would be like to live in a small enclosure where you had no contact with the outside world and nothing to keep you entertained? Sounds horrible, doesn’t it?
Sadly, this is exactly what life was like for Anastasia and Wilbur, two pigs who spent the duration of their lives at a defunct animal “sanctuary.”
Wilbur was confined to a dirt pen so small that his muscles are weak and underdeveloped and Anastasia is severely overweight and can barely see due to a sedentary life.
Thankfully, these two have been rescued by Animal Place and will finally receive the space and care they both deserve! In this video, these two piggies are setting foot onto their new open pasture that is over 70 times larger than the space they had been raised in. For the first time in their lives, these pigs are experiencing what it’s like to have grass under their hooves and their joyful oinks certainly indicate their approval.
We are so pleased to see these two get a second chance at life and wish them all the best at their new home!

That was a great video. And after all poor Wilbur had been through, he still seems like a pretty trusting, docile guy. The shot of him in the grass with dirt/mud on his snout made me smile. Hoping Anastasia does well in her new home. I know many people over-feed potbelly pigs, not realizing the fat build up will include folds of fat covering their eyes, causing vision issues. Sad for these creatures who really ask for nothing but proper, compassionate human care. I have seen many pigs at local animal shelters, and feel pain for them, knowing they face an uncertain future. (I shudder to think what condition the horses were in at this "sanctuary" and hope they, too, were rescued). Kudos to you for giving these 2 pigs a new life!
Video was of such poor quality that I never could get all of it — it kept stopping/rewinding every 10 seconds or so. And while the story is terrific, couldn\’t the humans at least wipe that one\’s sweet face? It could barely see, poor thing.
The video was shot in high definition, so perhaps you are having connectivity problems?
Your kindness is appreciate! Please understand both Wilbur and Anastasia were stressed after their transport. The last thing Anastasia (the potbellied pig) wanted from us was to touch her. She received more in depth care after she was given time to de-stress. She has folds of skin that obscure her vision, not anything we can remove at this point. We can only hope with a proper diet, she will lose a little bit of weight so she can move with greater ease and see with better visibility.
Thank you for the work you do. We need more people in the world who are willing to help animals get the lives they deserve. Any chance of Wilbur and Anastasia getting to hang out together. After being alone all their lives, it would be nice to have a friend.
