A 20-year-old gym enthusiast, identified as Jazmin Garza, collapsed while exercising and went into cardiac arrest shortly after sipping a well-known energy drink. Initially reported by Alexa Lardieri, U.S. Deputy Health Editor at The Daily Mail, Garza was performing weighted deadlifts in Iowa when she began feeling dizzy and passed out. Her boyfriend, Isaac Ayala, found her with no pulse and immediately administered CPR. Paramedics revived Garza multiple times en route to the hospital, where she was placed on life Support due to severe organ failure.

Ghost, the beverage Garza consumed, delivers about 200mg of caffeine—double what’s in two cups of coffee—and includes additives like carnitine and alpha-GPC, advertised to enhance energy and mental focus. Although doctors did not confirm a direct cause, Garza suspects the caffeine content and a possible undiagnosed heart condition combined to trigger her life-threatening episode.

After two weeks in the hospital, Garza recovered and now has a defibrillator implanted to stabilize her heartbeat in case of future cardiac irregularities. This frightening experience echoes wider health concerns linked to energy drinks, including potential risks of cardiac arrest, mental health strains, and even certain cancers tied to high-sugar beverages.

In line with a more sustainable lifestyle—one that favors plant-based nutrition and eco-friendly choices—consumers might consider swapping synthetic-laden energy drinks for cleaner alternatives, such as herbal teas or fresh fruit smoothies.

Our planet and our bodies thrive when we prioritize natural, plant-based energy sources. To Support better health, protect animals, and reduce environmental harm, ditch the artificially boosted buzz and opt for vegan or eco-friendly drinks instead.
