Animals have the best intuition, don’t they? And Molly the Golden Retriever is no exception, demonstrating this by knowing when another animal needed a little love.
Carolina Equine Rescue & Assistance took in a beautiful miniature horse named Sammy after he was found wandering the South Carolina streets showing signs of clear neglect. This poor little boy was skin and bone, to the point where his bones were visible through his coat, and he was also having difficulty walking. Sammy barely weighed 200 pounds and was in such a poor state that Darlene Kindle of the Rescue was advised to have him euthanized.
Molly did not agree! She introduced herself to a very nervous Sammy and took the time to give him a little comfort and company. Molly’s love for all the horses who come into Carolina Equine Rescue & Assistance may not be enough to treat medical conditions, but her gentle greeting and attention is surely the calm introduction they need. Sammy is slowly recovering, and that has a lot to do with his new canine friend!
Horse neglect is not something we hear about often, yet these animals deserve just as much love and attention as any other. If we take on an animal, we are responsible for their well-being, no matter how difficult things might get!
