Heidi Wrangles Cats, a rescuer in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, got a call about a mother and her four kittens who needed help. Once she arrived, she set up the humane trap and waited for the litter and their mom to all make their way into the trap together. However, instead of falling for the trap, the kittens had fun messing with Heidi! They went right up to the camera to say hi and used the trap as their playground.

After many unsuccessful attempts to trap the family and a lot of patience, they decided to try a new plan. Instead of attempting to trap all of them at once, they finally trapped just the mom. The rescue stressed the importance of never leaving mom behind. “If she’s friendly, get her adopted too, and if she’s feral, get her spayed and then return her back into the wild,” they said.

Soon after mom was trapped, they were able to get two more. After some investigation, they found the last two kittens hiding under a palate and trapped them successfully too.
“14 hours of trapping later! Our troublesome family is secured,” said Heidi.

“These guys are SO sweet. They’re underweight for their age and need a little fattening up but will be ready for adoption soon,” the rescue announced.

As cute as kittens are, the rescue urges people to remember how much suffering comes along with the cycle of reproduction with community cats. TNR is the most essential part of cat rescue and is the only way we can prevent future suffering, they add.
“TNR” stands for “Trap, Neuter, Release,” and it’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s the process of humanely trapping feral cats, neutering (or spaying) them, and then releasing them back into their colonies where they were originally trapped. TNR programs are supported by local animal control agencies, as well as large animal welfare organizations such as the ASPCA and Humane Society of the U.S., as a humane and effective method to control feral cat colony populations.
