Pharrell has even more to be “happy” about these days — he’s doing great things for the world’s oceans! For fashion brand G-Star Raw, Pharrell has curated and helped to launch “Raw from the Oceans,” a line of denim clothing made from recycled ocean waste.
According to De Zeen Magazine, “G-Star RAW made the garments in the RAW for the Ocean collection from materials created by Bionic Yarn, which transforms recycled plastic into textiles.”
Here’s an example of one of the new items from the line. Made from this special yarn, this is one piece of clothing you can feel great about and great in!

Designed with a octopus motif, the line will become available in August of this year. Watch the video for more info about the line and the rationale behind using ocean waste — all from Pharrell himself.
The entire line has won the Cannes’ First Product Design Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Recycling plastic into yarn is an amazing technique. Patagonia has perfected the process! Though it is not THE most sustainable as there is still a "life" to plastics (they will eventually end up in landfill no matter what), it is certainly very conscious. Great work Pharrel and Erin T.!
