Over 100 Animals Rescued from Harrowing Conditions in Texas

Over 100 animals, spanning a variety of species, were saved from distressing conditions on a property in Erath County, Texas. The intervention was sparked by a concerned caller who reported sightings of deceased animals, prompting swift action from authorities. Upon receiving the distress call, the Erath County Sheriff’s Office sprang into action, collaborating with Animal Investigation and Response (AIR) to initiate a comprehensive rescue operation. This joint effort also involved the Stephenville Police Department Animal Control, The Erath County Humane Society, and the Erath County Fire/EMS, highlighting the collaborative spirit in addressing such critical situations.

Upon investigation, the severity of the situation became evident. The property housed animals in dire circumstances, lacking adequate provisions of water, food, and shelter. Tragically, the scene also revealed deceased animals in various stages of decay, indicating prolonged neglect and suffering.

A decisive moment came when a warrant was issued and served at the location on CR 712, leading to the rescue of animals enduring intolerable conditions. Monica Ailey-Welborn, President of Animal Investigation and Response, commended the Erath County Sheriff’s Office for their commitment to combating animal cruelty. She emphasized the urgent need for intervention and expressed pride in collaborating with the authorities to provide essential assistance to the distressed animals.

Currently, the rescued animals are under the custody of the Sheriff’s office, pending a custody hearing. They are receiving crucial veterinary care at an undisclosed location, thanks to the collaborative efforts of AIR veterinarians, Greeks Creek Veterinary Hospital, and professionals from Texas A&M University. The commitment to ensuring the welfare of these animals extends beyond the rescue operation, with AIR Responders working tirelessly alongside law enforcement to provide ongoing care until a resolution is reached.
