The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) found Ndotto the African Elephant in August of 2014 in a herd of animals on a remote mountain range with no other elephants in sight. He was just 40 kilograms at birth, less than half of the 90 kilograms that baby elephants usually are. DSWT had their fingers crossed as they helicoptered him back to their Nairobi Nursery for some much-needed TLC.
By all rights, Ndotto should not have survived. He was underweight, couldn’t walk without help, and would have had no way of fighting off a sickness at his low weight. Despite all that was stacked against him, he’s still going strong 21 months after his rescue. He now loves to do all sorts of fun elephant things like chasing staff, dust bathing, and of course, eating!
Ndotto shows that you shouldn’t count anyone out no matter how bleak the situation looks! To learn more about DSWT, check out their website here. For more sweet elephant videos, click here.
