In 2025, several new laws are rolling out across New York, designed to Support workers, families, and students. Among the most impactful changes is a boost to the minimum wage. Workers in Western New York will receive a pay raise of 50 cents per hour, increasing their wages from $15 to $15.50.
For individuals managing diabetes, relief is on the way. The state now requires health insurers to cover necessary supplies and equipment for treatment. Additionally, co-pays for insulin are being eliminated, reducing out-of-pocket expenses.
Expectant families will also see positive developments with a new policy requiring paid prenatal leave. This law guarantees that pregnant employees are entitled to at least 20 hours of paid leave for essential medical visits, such as sonograms. Notably, employers are not permitted to request pregnancy verification from their staff.
Schools will also implement measures to safeguard students and staff from extreme heat. Each district must devise strategies to manage high temperatures, including setting an upper limit for classroom temperatures to promote a comfortable learning atmosphere.
