Polar bears are critically threatened because of Climate change. The marine animals rely on sea ice to live on and hunt prey in the Arctic Ocean. However, warmer temperatures have caused a massive loss of sea ice for the population and, thus, caused the polar bear to be the first vertebrate listed on the U.S. Endangered Species Act in 2008.
In this video, watch as a family of polar bears journey on a quest to find sea ice. It’s an unfortunate truth that these bears have to endure because of rising temperatures. With speeds of up to 6 mph, these massive bears swim up to 100 miles a day to find sea ice.
Their survival depends on it. While the video may be mesmerizing to watch, these polar bears are not just going for a swim. They are desperately trying to find a place to rest and some food. It is a fact that they must face everyday. It’s a fight to stay alive.
