Prahalad Gurjar made a deliberate decision to enter the lion enclosure despite warnings from zookeepers. Reports suggest that Gurjar, possibly under the influence of alcohol, ignored cautions and attempted to get close to the lion, purportedly for a selfie. Tragically, his actions led to a swift and fatal mauling by the lion within a mere 10 minutes.
Zoo authorities, taken aback by the incident, expressed their regret and highlighted the precautions they had in place to prevent such occurrences. Despite their efforts, Gurjar’s determined intrusion resulted in a terrible outcome. Zoo curator C Selvam emphasized the need for a thorough review of security measures to stop any future incidents.
Following the attack, zoo staff promptly notified local authorities and initiated emergency measures. The lion was secured, and Gurjar’s body, along with his belongings, was retrieved from the enclosure. Initial reports suggest that excessive bleeding might have been the cause of Gurjar’s death.
In the wake of the tragedy, police have launched an investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding Gurjar’s actions and the subsequent lion attack. Meanwhile, Gurjar’s family has been informed of the incident, and his body awaits a post-mortem examination at the SVRR Government General Hospital.
This serves as a reminder of the inherent dangers of disregarding safety protocols in wildlife habitats and reminds us why animals should not be held in captivity.
