Legendary film maker James Cameron recently announced his change to a plant-based diet for environmental reasons. His dedication to environmental issues was clear in the 2009 film “Avatar” that had a strong message about the destructive ways humans treat the planet.
In a recent short video posted onto the ‘Earthlings’ Facebook page, the Oscar winning director says, “The point I’m trying to make is, we care about the oceans, our hearts are breaking for what’s happening in the oceans and we’ve got to do something about it. And I want to challenge everybody – if you’re an environmentalist, my challenge is you can’t be an environmentalist, you can’t be an ocean steward, without truly walking the walk, and you can’t walk the walk in the world of the future, the world ahead of us, the world of our children, not eating a plant-based diet.”
Watch the video below:
Cameron praises “Forks Over Knives” for enacting this life change. He says “…I watched that film Forks Over Knives. I went into the kitchen, I took everything out of the kitchen that was not a plant. And for 5 1/2 months I’ve eaten only plants. No meat, no dairy, no eggs, no fish.”
Not only has Cameron adopted a plant-based diet, but he and his wife grow their own vegetables near their home in California. Even their compost is animal byproduct free (they use no manure).
Will you take James Cameron’s environmentalist challenge?
