On Monday, Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a heartfelt tribute to her late friend Shannen Doherty, urging fans to honor Doherty’s legacy through her passion for animals.
Gellar posted a series of photos on Instagram, reflecting on their 30 years of friendship. She expressed the difficulty of encapsulating such a long and meaningful relationship in words, emphasizing the depth of their bond. “I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because there was so much love,” Gellar wrote. She also thanked fans for their kind messages and Support, highlighting the impact Doherty had on many.
Shannen Doherty, known for her roles in “Charmed” and “Beverly Hills, 90210,” passed away at 53 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Doherty went into remission two years later. However, in 2020, it was revealed that her cancer had metastasized to Stage 4, making it incurable.
Gellar encouraged fans to honor Doherty’s memory by supporting animal charities, something Doherty was passionate about. “In her memory, let’s Support our favorite animal charities,” Gellar suggested. She mentioned various ways to contribute, from donating money to volunteering at local shelters.
Throughout her life, Doherty was a staunch advocate for Animal rights. In March, she posted a video urging people to Support legislation protecting horses from slaughter. In recognition of her advocacy, PETA named a rescue horse after her in April to celebrate her birthday and her compassionate nature. Doherty’s own love for animals was evident in her bond with her German shepherd, Bowie.
