Near a park in Johannesburg, South Africa, a surveillance camera recently caught a family in the act of mindlessly abandoning their dog. In the heartbreaking footage, a truck pulls into the parking lot, after which a couple of children get out of the car, one of them carrying a puppy whom he then leaves on the ground at a certain distance. The child runs back to the truck and the people hastily drive off, fleeing the spot – it takes just a second for the puppy to realize that what is happening is not a family trip nor a weekend walk. The poor little one rushes back to the car, but it is too late. The puppy is left alone in the middle of the street.
The footage was captured by homeowner Henno Reyneke and he wrote on Facebook, “These people just left their dog in front of our house. Wtf is wrong with people.” Luckily, Henno kindly took in the pup and worked with a local shelter to get him adopted into a loving family.
Hopefully, now the puppy will finally have a responsible, proper home – and the video will serve as yet another reminder that, unfortunately, not everyone should be allowed to take responsibility for an animal.
I can\’t even possibly imagine how that poor child must have felt, having to take what was probably his puppy and dump it on the ground. This is child abuse and these people should be found and prosecuted.
