Animal rights activists are condemning the death of a horse on the set of Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” The incident occurred on March 21st, and while Amazon Studios released a statement confirming the situation, it did not quell the concerns of groups like PETA. The horse suffered cardiac arrest while standing with about 20 other horses, and while a veterinarian and a representative of the American Humane Association were present at the time, the horse could not be saved.

The meat industry is obstructing efforts to combat Climate change, according to a recent leak of a draft of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report. The draft initially recommended a shift to plant-based diets, stating that “plant-based diets can reduce GHG emissions by up to 50% compared to the average emission-intensive Western diet.” However, the final report changed the wording to “balanced, sustainable healthy diets acknowledging nutritional needs,” which skirts around direct mentions of beef and dairy.

Sixteen young Montanans are taking their state to court in the first-ever youth constitutional climate case in the United States. The lawsuit, Held et al. v. Montana, filed on March 13, 2020, asserts that the state’s Support for a fossil fuel-driven energy system violates their constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment. The case cites Article II, Section 3 of Montana’s Constitution, which guarantees the rights of all persons to enjoy and defend their lives, acquire and protect property, and seek safety, health, and happiness in all lawful ways while recognizing corresponding responsibilities.
