About two weeks ago, Ludlow, Mass. police officers ventured into the woods in search of one-year-old Pomeranian, Jameson, then known as Scrunchy.
The young dog was left to die in the woods by his owner, who had brutally beaten him with a garden tool, reports ABC 40.
As soon as Officer Brian Shameklis pulled into the owner’s driver, he said he could “see blood on the side of the pick-up truck.”
Ludlow police officers Shameklis, Michael Whitney, Jason Chelo, and Alison Metcalfe were unsure of what they’d find when they first stepped into the nearby woods, fearing that Jameson was already dead.
However, after some time, they discovered Jameson’s body and saw he was indeed still holding on to life, barely moving his badly wounded head.
The team rushed Jameson to Boston Road Animal Hospital, but not long after, he had to be transferred to a “Weymouth neurologist for brain surgery,” as reported by ABC 40.
Jameson’s medical bills advanced to over $10,000, but with Ludlow police officers helping to pay for Jameson’s down payment and a Facebook group “Ludlow Residents Against Animal Cruelty” set up along with a fundraising page on PetChance.org, Ludlow town residents were able to pull together and save sweet Jameson.

“For us to come to work and to save the dog first of all and then to have the whole animal lover community band together to try to save one dog — it’s refreshing and it’s heartwarming — and we don’t see that everyday,” Metcalfe said.
Doctors report that Jameson will need to stay on medication during his recovery and will also need rehab, but overall they are optimistic about his progress and chances of a full recovery.
Jameson is now doing quite well, and is getting adjusted to his new home with rescuer, detective Metcalfe, who gave him his new name “as a fresh start.” They both can sleep soundly at night as well, knowing that Jameson’s cruel former owner, Ricardo Costa, has been charged with animal cruelty with a $2,500 cash bail posted.
A new, wonderful life awaits Jameson – one without fear, one filled with hope.

I will never understand how anyone could hurt a helpless animal. Thank God this dog was saved .
:) so sweet! I would love to adopt a rescue dog if I could!
Animal abusers should never be allowed to own another animal ever again & should be monitored extensively. Those that abuse animals are vulgar humans that should have their rights taken away….they have no sincere respect for life. Such blatant cowards.
