A new PETA video featuring dozens of today’s biggest stars opens with a declaration of love for New York City. The city has so much culture to offer — art museums, concerts, theater — but there’s one thing these stars all dislike: horse-drawn carriage rides.
Many tourists enjoy the rides, and the beautiful horses dress up the city streets, reminding travelers of a simpler, more peaceful era. Unfortunately, these horses are working in a modern world where they’re forced to breathe in exhaust fumes and other city Pollution and listen to the stressful loud noises of urban traffic.
In the video, celebrities cheer for Mayor de Blasio to continue working to free NYC’s horses. Currently, 19 council members are undecided on a ban, 15 Support it and eight oppose it.
Liam Neeson stands out as one celebrity who opposes a ban on carriage horses. He believes the horses are well-cared for and would be sent to slaughter if their carriage-pulling jobs came to an end. On the contrary, people are lining up to adopt draft horses because they’re strong and gentle compared to other breeds. According to Allie Feldman, executive director for carriage horse advocacy group NYClass, “We get calls from compassionate people all the time offering to adopt a carriage horse, and we’re maintaining a long list of prospective homes that are ready and waiting for when the horses are taken off the streets. ”
Tourists can still enjoy old-fashioned rides around the city if horse-drawn carriages are banned. The horses would be replaced with eco-friendly replicas of classic cars.

Ok, it’s crazy PETA, but they do make some good points.
