Could cooking your own food save your life?
In this short video of a Michael Pollan talk created by RSA.org, the basic message is clear about cooking: it can change a whole lot about the way you eat and live.
Though excerpts from a longer talk called “How Cooking Can Change Your Life,” Pollan covers the major differences between food when cooked by a corporation versus when cooked by “a human being.” He also discusses how addicting corporate food really is.
When you let corporations cook for you, we let “special occasion foods” like French fries, a fairly labor-intensive food to prepare if done at home, become regular fare for us. If we were to cook French fries on our own, we’d likely have them a bit less, considering all the work one has to put into making them from scratch. But, when corporations make them by the boatload, foods like French fries are readily available – and we’re more likely to eat them more.
Some interesting points from Pollan are in this easily-consumable video, so be sure to check it out for more of reasons on why cooking your own food may just change your life! You can also check out the full talk here.
