Breeding Dog Adopted, Finally Enjoying Life in Amazing Video

West Highland Terrier sits in field. Former breeding dog rescued enjoys life

After having 27 puppies in five years, a breeding dog named Matilda was exhausted. Fortunately, when she became available for adoption at age six, someone was waiting to take her. Hannah had previously adopted one of Matilda’s puppies and noticed how exhausted she was. Once Matilda became available, Hannah knew that she had to give her a loving home.

It wasn’t easy for Matilda to adjust to her new life. As a breeding dog, Matilda had spent her life confined to a kennel. Because of this, she would easily become overwhelmed. However, with time and patience, the former breeding dog learned to love her new life. She particularly enjoys walks.

A video of Matilda on a walk was shared to Hannah’s TikTok account @heidi_and_matilda. In the video, Matilda can be seen pausing during an outing to enjoy her surroundings. Text overlaid on the video reads “Our rescue likes to stop and take it all in sometimes. It’s so new. All she’s ever known is the farm and puppies. Watching her discover freedom is so beautiful.”

Although Matilda found an amazing new home, not all dogs used for breeding are so lucky. These dogs are often kept in horrible conditions and deprived of interaction. They may also suffer from malnutrition, abuse, and be denied veterinary care. When they are no longer useful for breeding purposes, they are usually killed or abandoned. Remember, never purchase a puppy from a pet store, puppy mill, or disreputable backyard breeder. Instead, consider rescuing a dog. If you are looking for a specific breed, many rescues around the country specialize in certain breeds of dogs who have been rescued or are in search of a new home.
