Seventeen bears have been rescued from what would have been a life sentence in miserable concrete pits in Helen, Georgia.
According to PETA, they’re now roaming acres of natural habitat at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, where they are already rolling in the grass, racing around their fields, and enjoying relative freedom and fresh mountain air in a stunning 60-acre habitat.
The move was the result of a collaborative effort between PETA, PETA patron and The Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon, The Wild Animal Sanctuary, and the Atlanta Humane Society.

Thank you PETA and friends for saving these beautiful bears. I am thrilled to see them free and roaming where they can run and have fun.
I have been following the Black Bears up in Ely, MN at the Bear Center and there is a group studying them. Check it out at http:/www.bearcenter.org or bear.org Lots of information available there re the habits and culture of bears. Extremely interesting. We just had a couple of cubs born and will be watching them as they grown..Lots of fun.
Best of luck with the new arrivals. They are happy animals and actually like humans if they have been around them. Maureen
THe Wild Animal Sanctuary where these bears live now is a wonderful place near here. I have taken the grandkids. One of the facts I learned from them is that there are more tigers in captivity in Texas than roam free on the planet. Sanctuaries like this need our help.
