Black bears are currently expanding their populations in New Jersey, where this bear family was sighted, and can be found in all 21 of New Jersey’s counties. Some communities report them as being a nuisance after bears get into neighborhood trash cans that have not been properly secured.
For those who live in areas where black bears, or any species of bear, pose problems, looking to how New Jersey handles their furry neighbors might be very helpful in figuring out how to coexist peacefully with them. As the New Jersey state government puts it, be bear aware – it can only lead to human and bear inhabitants of the same area getting along without anyone getting hurt.
