In these modern days, adaptogens are used as part of an all natural practice called phytotherapy, the “use of plants for their healing abilities.” While, adaptogens seek to “balance, restore, and protect the body,” they primarily focus on the body’s stress response. A stress response refers to the natural bodily response that releases “the hormone cortisol to respond to stress.” Long-term elevated cortisol levels have been shown to negatively “affect every physiological system in your body, including your thyroid and adrenal glands.”
Even though adaptogens are somewhat new to most of us, “these herbs and roots have been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic healing traditions.” While most of these herbs and roots can be consumed in supplemental form or even cooked into meals, most adaptogenic herbs are most powerful in brewed teas.
Dr. Brenda Powell, co-medical director of the Center for Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute, explains the use of adaptogenic plant-based herbs and roots best: “adaptogens help your body handle stress … “They’re meant to bring us back to the middle.”

The dosage of lion’s mane in each packet it’s well worth it, each packet contains 1.5g (1500mg) of lions mane, more than I would expect which is great, more bang for the buck … I think the taste (bland and earthy) adds to the wakefulness and alertness that the concoction produces.”
