Student Launches Scholarship Competition About Veganism!

At the age of 10, most children are preoccupied with playtime and cartoons, not the impact of their food choices. However, for Kennedy Little, a student at Morehead State University, her journey toward veganism began at a very young age. Witnessing the plight of animals and farm workers propelled her into action, igniting a passion that would lead her to create a remarkable initiative.

During her sophomore year, Little embarked on an internship with “The Food Empowerment Project.” This experience proved transformative, inspiring her to establish a scholarship in 2023 aimed at empowering students across America to advocate for veganism.

The scholarship, administered by the non-profit organization, offers awards ranging from $300 to $500, targeting individuals between the ages of 11 and 24. Little’s vision for this initiative is not only to spotlight the creative talents of minority students but also to raise awareness about the struggles faced by farm workers and animals within the food industry.

As the youth advocacy coordinator for the project, Little has renewed the scholarship for another year, this time with a distinct focus. The theme challenges contestants to explore ways of fostering compassion for non-human animals, thereby nurturing a kinder world. Embracing a broad spectrum of artistic expression, applicants are encouraged to create original artwork that embodies the spirit of compassion and empathy. In Little’s own words, “I hope that more young people feel comfortable and confident about being in this space and don’t feel ashamed. For fighting for animals, because that’s nothing to be ashamed about. It’s a very noble thing to do.”

This initiative celebrates creativity and serves as a catalyst for meaningful change. By encouraging youth to engage in discussions surrounding animal welfare and sustainable living, the scholarship cultivates a generation of compassionate advocates poised to make a difference. Applications for the scholarship are open until April 25th, providing aspiring advocates ample opportunity to contribute their voices to the cause. To apply click here.
