To be conscious is to be awake, aware and ever-present of the existing, living world around you. It’s a lifestyle devoted to the larger scheme of things and how your presence interacts, affects and yes, harms others. Becoming more conscious takes a commitment to learning, understanding and inevitably making a few lasting changes. While it can’t be done overnight, in an entire week’s time you can really change your lifestyle.
Now, most people will tell you to begin on a Monday. As with anything — diet, budget, workout routine — Mondays provide the ultimate excuse for weekend gluttony. If you begin your lifestyle change on a Sunday — a day known for rest and rejuvenation — you’re that much stronger going into the week with it. Monday suddenly loses its power. Give it a try!
Now, are you ready to see how you can live a more conscious lifestyle in just a week’s time?
Do some quality reading or researching. Sundays are meant for catching up on everything the week’s business didn’t leave time for. Often, this includes valuable news that makes us more aware and more likely to live green, conscious lives. Check out alternative media sites for news not often broadcasted or widely reported on to really stay informed and aware.
Knowing is the first step to acting. We cannot except to be conscious without being aware.
With Meatless Mondays being popularized, ditching meat on Mondays is not just easy; it’s also the trendy thing to do. Ditching meat even one day a week makes a great impact for your health, the environment, and, of course, the animals. Make a commitment that Tuesday is low-energy use at home day. Use candles in the evening for light, extra blankets instead of a heat-hike and keep showers, dishes and other water uses short. Take it farther by eating raw or low-energy input foods and skipping the nightly computer or television browsing.
It’s the middle of the week and let’s face it, so far this conscious thing has been pretty hard! Take the night to relax with an educational documentary on any topic you want. No knowledge is wasted knowledge.
Gratitude and appreciation are born from being conscious of others. Take Thursdays to be thankful and show it—spurring a positive momentum of kindness. You can start with a smile or purchasing the next person-in-line’s drink. Then, you can try having someone over for dinner or perhaps even making Thursdays your volunteering of family fun night.
Fridays are for socializing and networking. Never underestimate the value of talking to someone — new or familiar — about new topics. Learning first hand from people is as good as it gets. So get out there and start talking, because you never know what you’re about to learn.
Saturdays typically provide more time for fun activities outdoors or with friends and family. Make the most of your Saturdays by saving them for the people who matter the most to you and bring light into your life. This day is for rebooting your conscious self.
Conscious living is a process of recognizing your self within the larger network of people, environment and animals around you. This day-by-day guide is meant to get you started, but there’s no stopping how far you can go with this.
Get excited, get ready, get conscious!
