In Chennai, India, entrepreneur B L Bengani is making waves by transforming rice husks into sustainable furniture. His company, Indowud NFC, creates a zero-wood board that addresses climate concerns while offering a robust alternative to traditional wood. This innovative material is resistant to insects, weather, and fire, making it an ideal choice for eco-friendly furniture production.
Bengani’s journey began with a passion for the environment. Concerned about deforestation and the impacts of Climate change, he dedicated two years and a substantial investment to develop this unique product. Launched in 2019, Indowud NFC utilizes agricultural husk combined with minerals and PVC resin sourced from Japan and South Korea to create a composite that is not only durable but also 100% recyclable.
With over 40 years in the plywood industry, Bengani recognized the urgent need for sustainable solutions. His experience began in the 1980s, leading to the establishment of Uniply Industries in 1996, which later gained recognition on the Bombay Stock Exchange. His latest venture reflects a commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility, proving that sustainability and functionality can go hand in hand.
The movement has gotten attention online, with a video shared by @nationwide_renewables attracting more than 18,000 likes, showcasing the growing interest in eco-conscious alternatives.
