The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is one of East Africa’s oldest and pioneering conservation organizations. Founded in 1977, the DSWT works to protect, preserve and conserve wildlife and habitats in Kenya through a variety of conservation projects which include the Orphans’ Project; 11 De-Snaring Teams, Canine Unit and five Mobile Veterinary Units in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, as well as Aerial Surveillance, Community Outreach and Saving Habitats. To date, the DSWT has successfully hand-reared over 200 orphaned infant elephants through the Orphans’ Project, proudly named the most successful elephant orphanage in the world. Through Daphne Sheldrick, the DSWT pioneered the process to hand-raise orphaned baby elephants, including discovering the formula of milk that replicates an adult females’ milk. More than 100 orphaned elephants are now living a wild life, with 29 known wild born babies. Through the DSWT’s De-Snaring Teams, which work in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, the charity patrols fragile ecosystems and monitor wildlife populations. To date, the teams have made over 1,900 arrests and removed in excess of 125,000 snares. The DSWT/KWS Mobile Veterinary Units and Sky Vet have also attended to more than 2,297 elephant cases and 5425 wild animals. Further information is attached.
