Hope for Paws is an animal rescue organization in Los Angeles, California that saves lost and abandoned companion animals from the streets. They recently received a call about a tiny Yorkie who had wedged herself under a propane tank at a gas station. When rescuers arrived at the scene, they could not comprehend how the little dog had gotten under the narrow space; she was entirely stuck. They had to use a metal rod as a lever to hoist up the tank’s enclosure, and if the rescue had taken even a moment longer, the adorable dog would have been crushed to death.
Rightfully scared, the sweet Yorkie soon calmed down and was taken to the shelter where she was given a bath and scanned for a microchip, which she did not have. After a week of searching for her guardians, they finally located them and arranged for a reunion.
This little Yorkie and her family were incredibly lucky to be reunited, especially considering the pup did not have an ID tag or microchip. Collars and ID tags can fall off a pet, so getting your beloved pet microchipped will ensure they can be identified and reunited with you in the case of any emergency.
As this story shows, many families do not have their animal companions microchipped, so please share this with your network as a lesson why microchipping is so important in keeping families together.
We are grateful for the admirable work Hope for Paws does for animals. If you are able, please consider making a donation to the organization so they can continue to save lives and reunite families.
