Pigs are playful, social, incredibly smart, and forgiving animals despite everything they go through in the food industry. Around 95 percent of pigs raised in the United States are kept in gestation crates where they barely have any room to move. When they are no longer “useful,” they are slaughtered for their meat. A pig named Julia was kept in a horrible situation like this. She was treated so badly at a farm in upstate New Yorker that a worker alerted the police who then called Farm Sanctuary.
Julia, a pregnant sow, was brutally kicked, beat, and had an electric prod run over her body as she screamed in pain. Photos of her marked and beaten body can be seen in the video above, along with audio of her screams as she was cruelly abused. When Julia collapsed, she was then dragged by her ears.
Very rarely does law enforcement get involved in animal abuse cases in farms, but Julia was very fortunate to have Farm Sanctuary come to the rescue. She proved to be a gentle, sweetheart and was an amazing mother to her piglets whom she gave birth to just eight hours after arriving at her new, peaceful life at the sanctuary.
March of this year marked one year since her death. Watch the full video above to watch the impact Julia had on Farm Sanctuary, how much she means to them, and the legacy she left behind!
