It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including demanding hazard pay for veterinary workers, retracting the bear bile treatment recommendation, and banning convicted animal abusers from owning pets.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Repeal Arizona Law that Puts Endangered Animals at More Risk

Source: This State Just Put Its Endangered Animals In A LOT More Danger!

Arizona alone is home to 65 species that are listed under the United States’ Endangered Species Act (ESA). Of the 65, 44 are animal species and 21 are plants. The state has a responsibility to support and conserve their populations, or they could be lost forever. Life for endangered species in Arizona just got a whole lot harder, thanks to a bill that will allow private property owners to hide any and all information about threatened wildlife living on their land. Without this information, conservationists can’t protect those species and greedy developers will surely destroy the habitats of endangered flora and fauna! Sign this petition asking Arizona to repeal HB 2749 to protect endangered species.

2. Demand Hazard Pay from National Veterinary Associates for Veterinary Workers

NVA (National Veterinary Associates) is the largest private owner of freestanding veterinary hospitals in the US. Their net worth is hundreds of millions of dollars. Currently, during this pandemic, hundreds of veterinary workers are risking their health to come to work and treat our animal patients. However, they are doing so with no hazard pay. Sign this petition asking NVA to do the right thing and provide hazard pay for their employees.

3. Demand the Retraction of Bear Bile Being Recommended to Treat Covid-19

Source: Bear Bile is Being Recommended to Treat Covid-19, with NO EVIDENCE!

The Chinese government are now recommending a substance containing bear bile to treat Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Some bear bile is procured from bears that are locked up, living horrible and unnatural lives, only to have their bile pulled out as often as possible for medicinal purposes. Reports show that bears on bile farms are often starved, suffering from diseases, and often living in isolation. Other bear bile is procured in even more tragic ways – by killing wild bears just for their bile. We cannot let innocent animals suffer and die for an unproven treatment of Covid-19. Sign this petition to ask the Chinese government to retract this recommendation to protect the bears!

4. Ban Trophy Hunting in South Africa

Animals, like elephants, rhinos, and lions, despite their vulnerable or endangered status, are legally hunted in South Africa. The IUCN has pointed out that there is a clear connection between legal hunting and poaching, and it all drives the extinction of these animals. It’s time South Africa put an end to this horrible practice and create policies that actually protect their unique animal species. Please sign this petition asking South Africa to ban trophy hunting once and for all.

5. Ask Pedigree to Speak out Against Yulin Dog Meat Festival

Every June, at least a thousand dogs lose their lives in the most horrific way at the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Thanks to public outcry, both within China and around the world, the festival’s popularity has decreased and restrictions have been set, leading to fewer dogs being slaughtered. But this pressure must continue if we are going to succeed in ending the festival for good. That’s why this petition calls on dog food brand Pedigree to use its platform and speak out against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Please sign this petition urging Pedigree to take a stand against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival.

6. Convicted Animal Abusers Can Adopt Pets in 35 States

There are only 15 states that have any laws preventing known abusers from adopting animals. About half of them have a limit on how long a judge can prevent someone from owning an animal, usually 5 years or so. The rest are up to each judge. But we need every single state to be able to ban abusers from adopting animals. Sign this petition to ask the following states to put laws on the book to prevent convicted abusers from adopting animals.

7. Oppose the Copper Mine that Threatens Animals, Plants, and People in Norway

Source: This Copper Mine Threatens the Environment and Thousands of Livelihoods

The new copper mine has become possible thanks to the melting of arctic ice, and Norway intends to make a profit out of it immediately. This will not only irreparably damage the fragile arctic underwater ecosystem, but it will also pollute nearby coastlines and ocean water — water that is home to many of the fish eaten worldwide and countless species of animals and plants. Sign this petition to tell Norway you won’t stand for them profiting on the destruction of the environment and the livelihoods of folks there!

8. Stop this Logging Company From Devastating Animals that Barely Survived Australia’s Bushfires

New South Wales lost close to a third of its koala population to the blazes, while 24% of all koala habitat was turned to ash. Now a logging company in the state of New South Wales (NSW) has continued to deforest what was left unburnt. Logging will only hurt more and should not be allowed to continue until we know the extent of the damage. We could lose entire species forever. Sign this petition asking the state government of NSW to suspend the Coastal IFOA until all impact assessments of this season’s bushfires are complete.

9. Close Slaughterhouses in the U.S.

Source: USA needs to close ALL Animal Slaughterhouses

Factory farming is causing severe damage to the environment as well as harming people’s health and treating animals cruelly. The ultimate goal is to close down all factory farms who inhumanely raise animals and slaughterhouses that abuse and torture animals. Sign this petition if you support the end of slaughterhouses in the United States.

10. Punish Man Who Fed Live Kittens to Fighting Dogs

Mark Cuthbert bought kittens on a website called Gumtree to use as live bait for his fighting dogs. He “assured more than 40 pet owners on the marketplace website that their cats and kittens would be going to a good home, then had them attacked and killed by three Patterdale terriers. “He was training the dogs for fights organised at his home,” according to The Times. Sign this petition calling on the British government to take real action to prevent animal abuse, by banning convicted criminals like Mark Cuthbert from ever owning an animal again.
