It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.
There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including banning gestation crates, ending horse soring, and banning balloon releases.
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Ban Balloon Releases Which Harm Animals and the Environment
There are plenty of ways to celebrate that don’t put toxic materials into the world where innocent animals can ingest them and die. Sometimes the balloons even have strings attached, which can entangle birds or even kill them. No animal deserves to die so humans can have a nice moment. Sign this petition asking for a total ban on balloon releases.
2. Ban Gestation Crates That Imprison Pigs for Constant Breeding!
38 states in the U.S. still allow farmers to keep sows used for breeding in cages called gestation crates. These crates are so tiny the pigs can’t even turn around. Then they are repeatedly impregnated and made to give birth. It’s cruel and it must end. There is no reason for pigs to endure the torture of being pregnant not by choice and then not even being allowed to move or sleep comfortably. Sign this petition gestation crates and this immoral practice to be outlawed in all states.
3. Stop the Cruel Practice of Horse Soring
Tennessee walking horses are the ones primarily used for shows that require the cruel soring methods. The horses are beloved for their impressive gait which features them taking very high steps. But this is not natural to them. This gait is trained through cruel techniques, all known as soring. Different methods of soring include chemical, mechanical/physical, and action devices. Caustic chemicals are applied to the horses legs and wrapped tightly in plastic for the skin to be “cooked.” If done mechanically, the horses’ hooves are trimmed or devices are applied to force the horses to pick up their feet faster and higher. Sign this petition asking for legislation to ban this cruel practice!
4. Save Greyhounds from Dying for the Racing Industry in New South Wales
Greyhound racing was once banned in New South Wales, but the decision was later rescinded. Less than one year after the ban was revoked, hundreds of dogs were being killed. From April 2017 to date, an estimated 770 dogs have been killed after being found to be “unsuitable for rehoming.” Sign this petition asking for a final, permanent ban on greyhound racing in NSW!
5. Ban Tiger Captivity in Thailand
Since the cruel, infamous Tiger Temple was raided, more than half the tigers rescued by the government have died. Additionally, tiger parks haven’t begun to disappear. Rather, they have been steadily on the rise and now number nearly 70 with a total number of 2,000 animals in their “care.” These facilities make money both from “paw over tail.” Unwitting travelers pay big bucks to feed and pet the cubs. Then when they are grown they are slaughtered for their parts and sold into the black market. Sign this petition demanding that Thailand ban tiger captivity!
6. End Tradition of Gifting Cruel Fur Coat to Miss New Hampshire Winner
Every year for decades now the Miss New Hampshire Organization has accepted a fur coat made from dozens of skinned wild animals from NH trappers and the NH Trappers Association. There are less than 500 trappers in the state of NH, mostly men, and trapped animals can be bludgeoned, drowned or suffocated. This fur coat acceptance is an antiquated tradition and does not reflect modern times and trends. Sign this petition to demand an end to this cruel tradition!
7. Ban Cruel Dog Shock Collars in the UK
The government in the UK pledged to ban the sale of horrible shock collars for dogs and yet, two years later, they can still be found in stores. These contraptions are truly cruel and are a poor substitute for good dog training. Owners think that they can force their dog to behave by sending up to 6,000 volts of electricity through their dog’s neck whenever it does something they don’t like. But for most dogs, positive reinforcement like treats and kind words actually works just as well, if not better. Sign this petition to demand a real ban on shock collars in the UK.
8. Ban Fur in Britain
Even though the government ordered fur farms to closed own in 2003, Britain still imports fur from cruel farms overseas. Opinion polls show that “more than 80% believe that it’s unacceptable to buy and sell animal fur” in the UK, according to Humane Society International. Sign this petition demanding a ban on fur import for a fur free Britain!
9. Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages in NYC
On February 28th, an exhausted carriage horse that had fallen over in the middle of Central Park struggles to regain its footing. The video is absolutely devastating as the horse continues to collapse over and over again. Like all other horses who suffer this way, he was euthanized. Sign this petition if you want this cruelty to end!
Fur farms are cruel. And there are still many operation in many countries around the world, including China. On Chinese fur farms, animals are skinned alive and brutally beaten. They’re hung upside down by their ankles, skinned alive, and unable to escape. Sign this petition to speak up against the Chinese fur trade.
