93-year-old veteran, George Johnson adopted 13-year-old Sam, a white German Shepherd who was going to be euthanized. Sam’s owner, like Johnson was, is in the Navy and was deployed. With no one to take care of him, Sam was going to be put down because of his old age. Johnson said “no one’s going to put his dog to sleep” and is happy to “be two old dogs together.” In honor of George Johnson and Sam, the Petco Foundation gave $25,000 to the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County.
