A recent report by World Animal Protection (WAP) has raised serious concerns about GetYourGuide, a popular tour booking platform accused of selling experiences that exploit animals. The report identifies several venues on the platform where animals allegedly endure abusive conditions, inadequate care, and frightening interactions with humans.
Liz Cabrera Holtz, senior programs manager at WAP, criticized GetYourGuide for lacking a robust animal welfare policy, urging travelers to avoid supporting these venues. She said, “We’re warning travelers to steer clear of GetYourGuide until it adopts a robust and public animal welfare policy. Until then, GetYourGuide’s customers are inadvertently supporting animal cruelty.” One highlighted venue, the Miami Seaquarium, has faced eviction notices and federal scrutiny for mistreating dolphins, including severe food ration cuts.
Despite calls for reform, GetYourGuide maintains that it enforces safety protocols and removes non-compliant activities. However, critics argue that venues like Amer Fort in India and Cayman Turtle Centre continue to operate under questionable conditions, reflecting broader industry challenges.
