An older cat named Lilly was recently filmed apparently intimidating her human’s young dachshund. Lilly, a 14-year-old feline from Birmingham, England, has always coexisted well with dogs. She has lived with her human, Chris, since she was a kitten and often had canine companions throughout the years.

The latest member of their family happens to be a dachshund named Otto, who has been a part of the family for almost two years. Despite their typically close relationship, a video posted on TikTok under the handle @ottothedachsy shows an unusual moment between the two.

In the clip, Otto hesitates to walk past Lilly, who is calmly sitting in their home’s doorway. Otto seems cautious as if expecting Lilly to lash out, while Lilly remains indifferent, perhaps asserting her dominance. Otto eventually makes it past her, though nervously.

Chris thought the situation was “bizarre” but suggested a possible explanation. He speculated that Lilly might have swatted at Otto previously for being too intrusive, causing him to be more cautious this time. “He’s a dachshund, and they are known for being overly dramatic,” Chris added.

Contrary to the belief that cats and dogs can’t live peacefully together, research shows they often can. Studies indicate that 63 percent of cats and dogs living together play with each other. Felines tend to be more aloof, with 42 percent ignoring dogs compared to 28 percent of dogs ignoring cats. Cats are also more likely to attack dogs than vice versa.

The video, which has garnered over 518,000 views and 58,000 likes, elicited various reactions from viewers. One commenter wrote, “Mini dachshunds can sense evil.” Another remarked, “That cat is NOT just chilling. It knows exactly what it’s doing—power move.” Someone else commented, “Cats are just sadistic wind-up merchants; they know what they’re doing.” Another viewer said, “We know who wields the power in that house.”

Despite Otto’s apparent apprehension in the video, Chris confirmed that things returned to normal soon after. “After this clip, he was back in her face, being his usual bossy self,” he said.
