What a sweet surprise! YouTube poster mortdiver was walking on the deck of his boat one morning when he saw a spotted baby seal pup taking a snooze in the sun.
It’s no wonder their young are called pups, because seals really do look like the dogs of the sea. Watch how cute and furry this sleeping baby is, and how expressive his whiskered face looks when he finally wakes up (mortdiver respectfully keeps quiet when filming the animal’s nap, only greeting him with a “good morning” after he’s clearly alert).
As cuddly and puppyish as this little guy looks, he isn’t a domestic pet and mortdiver knows it. He resists any urge to pet the baby, and leaves him free to return to the water at will. It’s a real treat to see a baby seal up close, but it’s no treat for the seal to be touched and handled by humans. So if you ever see a seal taking it easy in the wild, look but please don’t touch!
