Over 100 animals have been rescued across Warren County, Tennessee, following an investigation into alleged abuse and neglect, according to District Attorney General Chris Stanford. The investigation, which began on May 28, led to multiple search warrants being executed at various locations throughout the county, including properties on Sparta Highway, Smithville Highway, Fairgrounds Road, Morrison Street, and Bluff Springs Road.
Law enforcement officials discovered numerous dogs, horses, and cattle suffering from various forms of abuse and neglect. The animals were immediately seized and taken to animal control agencies for necessary treatment and care. In total, 17 dogs, 58 horses, and 66 head of cattle were rescued.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case. Sidney Smith Stanton III faces 73 felony counts of animal cruelty, with his bond set at $150,000, which he has posted. Arvilla Joyce Staton was charged with 15 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and was released on a $15,000 bond. Both Stanton and Staton were scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on June 4.
District Attorney Stanford expressed gratitude to several organizations and individuals for their assistance in the rescue operation, including Warren County Animal Control, Horse Haven of Tennessee, Volunteer Equine, Premier Equine, Howie Horse Rescue, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, TDOA’s Crime Unit, and individuals Brandon Stubblefield, Josh Reed, and Kevin Hatfield.
