Over the past couple weeks, we couldn’t stop hearing the news about Kendall Jones, the self-proclaimed conservationist who hunted endangered animals and posted photos of her kills on Facebook. Jones and her supporters defended her hunts with the excuse that they raised money for Conservation, but this video shows that there’s no need to kill rhinos to save rhinos.
Watch the short clip to see Swaziland’s Jay Azran swim 2.5 kilometers (about 1.5 miles) across Jozini dam, braving waters shared with tigerfish, leeches, hippos and crocodiles. But with over 1,000 rhinos poached in South Africa last year, Azran’s brave feat was well-timed. Here’s a conservationist who truly cares about the future of endangered species, putting his own life on the line for their survival.
Azran’s swim earned over $7,000 for his charity, Project Rhino, an organization that fights against rhino poaching through the use of sophisticated anti-poaching technology, aerial surveillance and raising community awareness. You can learn more about Project Rhino here.
