The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) is a non-profit organization in Phetchaburi, Thailand whose goals are to rescue and rehabilitate animals who are abused, sick, and exploited by humans. They also aim to educate the public about the problems surrounding the illegal pet trade.
WFFT recently brought in a young female otter who was reported screaming for help in a Bangkok suburb. Otters call out when they are hungry according to WFFT, and rescuers presented the furry little animal with a feast of fresh fish. To their surprise, this little otter enthusiastically chowed down on her meal, showing that she has been accustomed to a healthier diet than most of the other otters who have joined the sanctuary, most as pets.
There are several factors that negatively affect wild otters in Thailand. Habitat loss and water Pollution killing off their food supply are two main contributing factors to the animals’ “threatened” status. However, this little otter is believed to be the result of the illegal pet trade.
You can help Jump and the rest of the WFFT crew in many ways. Visit the WFFT website to make a donation and sign up to volunteer – if you’re in the area. And most importantly, remember to never Support attractions and businesses that exploit animals for profit. Wild animals belong in the wild and should not be kept as pets. Don’t forget to share this story and its important message with your friends!
