The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) is a non-profit organization in Phetchaburi, Thailand whose goals are to rescue and rehabilitate animals who are abused, sick, and exploited by humans. They also aim to educate the public about the problems surrounding the illegal pet trade.

WFFT recently brought in a young female otter who was reported screaming for help in a Bangkok suburb. Otters call out when they are hungry according to WFFT, and rescuers presented the furry little animal with a feast of fresh fish. To their surprise, this little otter enthusiastically chowed down on her meal, showing that she has been accustomed to a healthier diet than most of the other otters who have joined the sanctuary, most as pets.

There are several factors that negatively affect wild otters in Thailand. Habitat loss and water Pollution killing off their food supply are two main contributing factors to the animals’ “threatened” status. However, this little otter is believed to be the result of the illegal pet trade.

Otters are known for calling out loudly when they are hungry. In this charming image, the rescued otter they named Jump seems to be reminding her loving caretakers that it is lunchtime!

Jump is loving her new life at WFFT with all the fresh fish an otter could dream of. Her dexterous digits, expressive face, and upbeat energy has everyone falling in love with her.

Jump has shown a great affinity for humans and is very comfortable around them. This is the primary reason why they believe this adorable one-year-old pup was once kept as someone’s pet. Because of this, Jump cannot be released into the wild, and she will continue to live on the sanctuary with another rescued otter named Jay.

You can help Jump and the rest of the WFFT crew in many ways. Visit the WFFT website to make a donation and sign up to volunteer – if you’re in the area. And most importantly, remember to never Support attractions and businesses that exploit animals for profit. Wild animals belong in the wild and should not be kept as pets. Don’t forget to share this story and its important message with your friends!
