Zacchary Bird Shares Tips for a Vegan Christmas

Vegan food personality and cookbook author Zacchary Bird knows how difficult navigating the holidays can be for vegans and vegetarians. Luckily, after eight years as a vegetarian and two and a half as a vegan, Bird has some tricks for navigating the holiday season. The social media star recently gave an interview to the news outlet ABC, explaining some of his top tips for a vegan-friendly Christmas

Christmas meals are traditionally full of animal products. From roast beef, turkeys, and Beef Wellingtons to mashed potatoes, gravies, and cheese balls, Christmas meals can be a minefield for those following a plant-based diet. So, Bird recommends always asking if you can bring a vegan dish or two. Even packing a meal just for yourself can ensure that you leave the holiday full and jolly, not like the Christmas Grinch!

If you are hosting or have the opportunity to cook, consider making a vegan alternative of a traditional holiday favorite. Zacchary Bird has recipes for a vegan roast turkey, seitan steak, and Peking duck on his website. His book Vegan Butcher also has a recipe for a vegan Beet Wellington that is sure to satisfy vegans and carnivores alike. A delicious, plant-based apple pie makes a great desert. And don’t forget about Santa’s milk and cookies! Set out these Choc Chip Cookies to ensure that no coal ends up in your stocking.

Introducing delicious vegan foods to the holiday table can inspire those you love to contemplate making more cruelty-free food choices in the coming year. However, Bird advises against arguing with people over their dietary decisions. Instead, he advocates for letting delicious plant-based delicacies speak for themselves.
