A new video from content creator Issy The Vegan has sparked a huge conversation online about whether or not it is ok to strictly raise your kids as vegan.
@issythevegan recently posted a video on her Instagram of her and her long-term boyfriend discussing what they would do about raising kids. Issy is vegan, but her boyfriend is not.
“If we were to have kids, you would be happy for them to be vegan. I would want them to be vegan.”
“I’m happy to just give my kids vegan food if when they leave the house and go to school, there’s no restriction because I think if you make a child’s life difficult, out of your control, it makes their life difficult in other ways,” the boyfriend, Calum, says to Issy.
He goes on to explain that if his child goes to school and lasagne is on the menu, he would not be bothered about that. Issy explains that she would want their child to eat the vegan option at school, and Calum says that there might not be one. Calum added that he wouldn’t want his kids to not be able to eat a birthday cake because it has eggs in it.
Issy says that she thinks that by the time they have kids, there will be so many more options for vegans and pointed out that the kids could be going to school with packed lunches anyways.
Issy responded to some backlash from the conversation and confirmed to The Independent that she would absolutely be accepting if her children chose not to be vegan, but she wants to raise them with her own morals.
