Three UK livestock dealers have been banned from working with farm animals after a secret investigation captured shocking acts of cruelty. According to a report by Andy Giddings at BBC News, the men—Joshua Whittall, John Challinor, and Kevin Arden—pleaded guilty to offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

The footage, gathered by Animal Justice Project, shows male dairy calves being kicked, punched, dragged by their ears, and thrown down trailer ramps at Oaklands Livestock Centre in Shropshire. Recorded between November 2020 and March 2021, the videos reveal a brutal side of the dairy industry that often goes unseen.

Sentenced at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court, each man received a lifetime ban from working with farmed animals, was ordered to pay court costs, and must complete 160 hours of unpaid work. They cannot apply to amend their bans for at least five years.

Claire Palmer, director of Animal Justice Project, said, “The cruelty we exposed is not an isolated incident but part of a broken system that treats animals as disposable commodities.” The group has been vocal in its mission to expose the dark realities behind the dairy industry and push for a shift toward veganism.

This case follows a 2023 conviction where livestock dealer Derek Whittle, also linked to Oaklands, was banned from keeping cattle for five years after admitting to similar offences.

No calf—or any animal—should suffer for human profit. Choosing plant-based options is a powerful way to stand against cruelty and Support a kinder, more compassionate world. Every small change matters, and together, we can create a system that values life over industry.
